August Horoscope 2017 – Overview

As the month begins, Venus changes sign to nurturing and supportive Cancer, so you will feel an extra attachment to being present and holding sacred space for those you love.
On August 2/3 (USA/Melbourne) Uranus stations retrograde and you will start to become extremely restless and impatient with anything which stands in the way of your independence. On August 4, Jupiter forms a third exact square to Pluto at the same time Mars squares the asteroid Pallas Athena, so power plays can emerge. But, used wisely, you can be motivated to use your personal power effectively and gain traction on your goals – especially in preparation for the Aquarius Full Moon/Lunar Eclipse on August 8/9.
This is an important time when issues that are still to be resolved or integrated into your consciousness will become clearer and new revelations will be apparent. The attention is on clearing old beliefs and mental patterns that diminish your ability to use your creativity and shine brightly. It could be time to let go of people and activities that are no longer aligned to what is in your heart, to facilitate new beginnings and growth to a new level of consciousness.
Mercury starts his next backward journey through the Zodiac from August 12/13, tracing his steps from 11 degrees and 36 minutes of Virgo to 28 degrees and 27 minutes of Leo. A few days afterwards, the Sun merges energy with the North Node of the Moon. This energetic mixture asks you to actively participate in producing order out of chaos but to do so through compassion, thus paving the way for a Total Eclipse of the Sun with a rare second Leo New Moon at 28 degrees and 53 minutes of the sign on August 21/22.
This is the first Total Solar Eclipse visible across continental USA in 99 years and significant world events traditionally tend to erupt along the path of an eclipse. The energy of Leo is emphasized further by the closeness to the Fixed Star Regulus – called the heart of the Lion and one of the Royal Stars of Persia just inside Virgo.
Do you have the courage to be who you are without being pulled down by so much collective suffering in the world that surrounds you? Can you shine and light the way forward without descending into feeling powerless or descending into the shadow of Leo in tyranny, pride, arrogance, childishness and self-importance.
Solar eclipses in ancient times were often associated with the death of kings and the fall of leaders, a death resulting from too much ego. This eclipse is powerfully charged by Mars and the North Node conjunct the luminaries forming a Grand Trine or Fire Triangle in the sky with Uranus and Eris in Aries and Saturn in Sagittarius. There is potential for recklessness, overconfidence and accidents so take care.
