Emerald Meaning & Properties
The healing crystal Emerald reaches out to us with the message: Open your heart and let true love and abundance fill your spirit.
This is not merely about having wealth and influence but also using the Universe’s Gifts with wisdom and empathy.
There are many on the path to God, but some have an uphill battle. Emerald wants to make that way a little smoother.
Aristotle had quite the love affair with Emerald, feeling it was the perfect magical crystal for leaders – making their speech and bearing more persuasive and allowing the bearer to succeed in legal matters. He also felt that it protected children from falling injuries. For this purpose it should be worn as a necklace.
It is nearly impossible to read the folklore and superstitions of various countries without the Emerald’s traits being touted. Among the Egyptians it was worn for fertility, the Roman fighters carried it for focus and Chaldeans felt the goddess Ishtar lived in an Emerald. Among metaphysical crystals, Emerald resonates with the 5th ray – God’s truth, health, awareness and psychic abilities.
Many ancients taught that Emerald influenced business in positive ways while also keeping women devoted to their partner. To speak of future events, place an Emerald on your tongue. This also keeps a person from fibbing. The Emerald spirit has deep honesty and integrity. It will not bear falsehood or duplicity. Mind you it’s a tad difficult to talk with your mouth full!
With Emerald’s power for guiding influential dialogue it’s not surprising to discover it adorning many of the most powerful characters in history. Cleopatra loved this mystical stone, Alexander the Great wore one on his belt, Russians put Emeralds into their leader’s crowns, Queen Elizabeth II had an Emerald diadem, various influential individuals in India used Emerald as a way to record sacred teachings and more than one country had a treasure trove of Emeralds in their coffers.
This gives Emerald the additional value of good fortune, providence and as a bridge between the human mind and Divine writings.
Wherever there is someone impacting the mind and spirit of humankind in profound ways, you’re likely to find Emerald in the picture.
Emerald comes under the dominion of the goddess Venus. As a love and devotion stone, its ideal. There is also a very strong connection to physical fertility, so if you want to bring children into the world wear an Emerald to attract the soul best suited to your family. This attribute of Emerald increases in spring when Earth herself is rich with rebirth. Speaking of which, Light workers who do rebirthing will find Emerald an excellent facilitator.

Emerald Name Etymology
Emerald comes from various languages.
In French it was esmeraude and in Latin it was esmaraldus. As pretty as both sound, they rather blandly mean “green stone” (seems an understatement for such a pretty gem).
Sanskrit was a little more descriptive using the term Marakata, which means the green of growing things. That linguistic connection gives Emerald connections with Mother Earth (Gaia) and development, and it could even be considered a gardener’s helper.
With love & sparkles,
