Leo Child:
Traits, Personality & Characteristics

On the jungle gym, the mighty jungle gym your Lion doesn’t swing tonigghht – or anytime for that matter.

Rather, they regally lounge at the top of it and survey the playground.

For it is their personal Pride Lands and they the Lion King of it.

Leo Child Traits, Personality, & Characteristics

Your Leo child will want to be the head of his or her pack and others will naturally acquiesce.

Nonetheless remember that your cub has a sensitive side, particularly if they feel they’ve disappointed or failed you somehow. As a parent, you’ll have to remind your Lion that your love isn’t contingent on them being “perfect.”
This star sign offers tons of affection to those in their inner circle with a sense of confidence beyond their years.

Leos respond very positively to reinforcement and praise. This brings out tremendous joy and seeming unending energy. Wherever they go you’ll find them leading others, be it organizing a game on the playground or volunteering to head a group at school.

As you can imagine, this sometimes creates conflict.

The Leo baby has a difficult time accepting ‘authority’.

Sometimes this lesson results in fierce fights and can end up with the Leo child pouting in their personal sanctuary. That is simply the nature of the Great Cat. Give them time to move through their feelings.

While your Leo child learns easily he or she really isn’t really a “rote” learner. They’re definitely more hands on, so getting them to study and do homework can sometimes be a struggle.

The best way to overcome this is by mentioning how good grades put them at the forefront of their peers (again in leadership roles). This will excite them and you may actually get an extra credit project or two!

Unlike house cats, the little Lion does not like naps nor going to sleep too early for fear of missing something important.

You might have to create a solid routine for bed time as soon as they’re home from the hospital so it doesn’t turn into a power struggle as they get older.

Remember that they have very high energy levels, which honestly does make it harder for them to gear down. Bedtime routines help with that unwinding process.

When it comes to sharing in household chores remember to think like a king. Your child wants important tasks, not “silly” stuff like picking up their clothes.

The key in presenting chores is emphasizing that you are entrusting them (no one else) with a task. Once you appeal to the Leo ego, all goes smoothly. If something does go wrong, correct them privately so as to protect the Lion’s pride.

Finally take care in what you say to little Leo. One of their strongest personality traits is that they cannot abide even the smallest of fibs (and will remember them for a very long time, word for word).

Once you break trust with the ever-loyal Leo they withdraw to the grasslands to protect themselves. Even loving parents get the cold shoulder until the Leo is ready forgive, but NOT forget.

The Leo Girl

When you have a little kitten around that’s going to grow into a very big cat you might think your Leo is all roar, but that’s not really the case.

Yes, your Leo girl will have a tendency to vocalize (often loudly) when she has something on her mind, but she’s also a very sensitive child. All that regal fanfare is really just a show covering up that profound spirit. It’s an effective protection and coping mechanism.

Early on you may find that one of your daughter’s characteristics is that she’s rather clingy. This is one of the attributes of an adult Leo, particularly one who has not been exposed to healthy relationships.

As parents it can be important to show normal love and affection toward each other as well as to your child so they don’t fear emotional commitments later in life. Don’t try to hide the way you resolve problems either. Little Leo will pick up on something askew, and think it’s their fault.

In terms of overall demeanor your Leo girl has natural self-confidence, sometimes it can seem like too much but if cultivated well, that confidence can help her achieve success in any of her chosen lofty goals.

She already sees herself as queen of her jungle, which makes her very high-spirited and sometimes overly intimidating to her peers, particularly those less knowledgeable than she. This is a child who needs active parenting.

The key with Leo children is keeping the various facets of their normal behavior in balance. Accomplish this by using sound, consistent reasoning. Over time your Leo daughter will suddenly “get it” and you’ll see the proverbial light bulb go on in terms of behavior changes. Why? Because they have a sensible streak that responds to rational arguments.

Your Leo daughter will laugh loudly, live fully, and love passionately. Don’t be fooled into thinking, however, that she doesn’t know how to use her claws with the same swiftness as her wit. When she gets angry, give her a place and space for cooling down before even thinking about reproaching the problem.
The Leo soul is more earth bound than celestial. Spiritual quests aren’t really her thing (if you bring up church she’ll likely roll her eyes). Give her something she can touch, however, and she’ll be amused and purring for hours.

In summary, a Leo girl is very good to her friends and makes them very easily. Her approachability is infectious to peers as is her loyalty. When people stick with this Great Cat they find a person who will forgive nearly anything except lies.

Be prepared for those moments with warm milk in hand.

The Leo Boy

Curtains up parents! You have a Leo son and they adore the stage. Give this boy a chance to be in any spotlight and they respond with glee. This feeds the natural Leo desire for attention as do the nearly endless stream of children who hang on his every royal pronouncement. Have your house fully stocked with snacks!

All that charisma can give your Leo a big head. It takes on-going parental tempering to reign in the King of Beasts. In particular observe his communications with his fellows making sure he isn’t exasperated by someone he feels is not at his “level” mentally, physically etc.

Also watch for the Leo bossiness shaking its mane vehemently. As children these great cats can act like arrogant little snits without strong parental correction that’s very specific yet unpretentious. Without life’s experience to guide them humility is not your Leo son’s strong suit.

On a happier note, Mr. Leo has a great appreciation for your cooking, especially if you give him something full-flavored and a fancy treat now and again. He also enjoys going to restaurants, wearing nice clothing.

All the trappings give the Leo external confidence that he uses like a shield to cover up a very sensitive heart. A little attention goes a long way with this child. It doesn’t have to be extravagant, just honest and well-deserved.

Your Leo baby has a very BIG heart but not always the best judgment. He cares about the “little cubs” who seem lost and without protection, but may not recognize trouble when it’s afoot. People may try to use that generosity and if/when he discovers the deception the results won’t be pretty.

As with humility, diplomacy isn’t in the Leo play book when they’ve been wronged and forgiveness will be very long in coming. Lions are notorious for holding a grudge. About the only way to help your Leo boy with this is by walking your talk and giving him a sound example.

Come teen years parents need to watch out for the amorous Lion. A Leo boy’s passion is superseded only by Scorpios. The Leo boy is easily prone to ‘testosterone poisoning’ (LOL). Don’t be surprised if he runs head long into a support pole when looking at pretty girls at the mall.

On the upside, a well-raised Leo young man will always be gallant. It is almost like he’s a throw-back to a different time.

Just know that jealousy can rear up in Leos when they’re dating particularly early on when they don’t feel wholly in control or secure.

I’m a lion mom to a Leo 10 year old boy. He’s arrogance comes through from time to time and I rile him in Every time. He has this tendency to act as if he’s unintelligent and he thinks it’s funny or cute. I hate it so much. I tell him it’s not cute or funny. When it comes to him learning something new, he’d rather someone tell him instead of seeking knowledge on his own. It’s infuriating. I’ve had the same talk with him about the personality traits above, but it seems it’s not getting though.
