The Numerology System We Use

There are a variety of approaches to Numerology, particularly in the form of calculations. Here at Building Beautiful Souls we have, for now, focused heavily on the Pythagorean method as it is the one used most widely.

Eventually we’ll share with you the other two systems, one based on the Kabbalah and the other on Chaldean tradition so keep peeking back!

The basic way numerology works is by assigning numbers to letters then reducing that number to a single digit. For example, 452 becomes 4+5+3 = 12. 12 becomes 1+2 = 3. The only time Numerology doesn’t work with single units is if the result of your addition turns out to be a master number – 11, 22, and 33.

By following this basic calculation you can determine various pieces of information including your:

    • Personality Number

What masks do you wear or not? Why do you wear them? This number is a mirror for you by reflecting what you’re “putting out there” in the world.

    • Life Path Number

What lessons do you need to work out from previous lifetimes? This Number helps your soul to remember.

    • Destiny Number or Expression Number

What did your soul sign up to accomplish in this incarnation? Just because we choose a path doesn’t mean we stick to it in our Earthly lifetimes…

    • Soul Urge or Heart’s Desire Number

Know thyself, right? This Number helps us to better understand our own motivations and “desires”.

Personality Number

The Personality Number comes from adding only the consonants in your full name.

Here is the formula step by step:

Avoid using nicknames in this process. Use your name exactly as it appears on your birth certificate.

Using the chart below add up all the consonants in your name (use your complete middle name if you have one). Reduce all but the Master Numbers (11, 22, and 33) to a single digit.

Example:

Anjezë Gonxhe Bojaxhiu (Mother Theresa’s full name)

Anjezë = N + J + Z translates to 5 + 1 + 8 = 14 then 1 + 4 = 5
Gonxhe = G + N + X + H translates to 7 + 5 + 6 + 8 = 26 then 2 + 6 = 8
Bojaxhiu = B + J + X + H translates to 2 + 1 + 6 + 8 = 17 then 1 + 7 = 8

Now add the single-digit numbers: 5 + 8 + 8 = 21 then 2 + 1 = 3

Think of a Personality Number like a shallow kitchen sink with a sieve. It’s very discriminating. No need to get too serious, too intense or for other people’s excess junk to clog up the workings of your mind and spirit.

The caution with our Personality Number comes in knowing what we’re projecting, and more importantly how others perceive it.

Life Path Number

Determining your Life Path number is as simple as 1-2-3. Wish our life path’s were that simple!

Here is the formula step by step:

Avoid using nicknames in this process. Use your name exactly as it appears on your birth certificate.

Each number of of your birth date (month/day/year) must be reduced to a single-digit number unless the total is a Master number (Master numbers are 11, 22 and 33).

Now add each of the resulting digits (or Master numbers) together and reduce the total again to a single digit, or a Master number.

EXAMPLE: if you were born on October 29, 1965 you would calculate your Life Path as follows:

MONTH: October is the 10th month of the year. 10 reduces to 1 (1 + 0 = 1).

DAY: The date of birth is 29. 29 reduces to 11 (2 + 9 = 11 – stays a double digit because it is a Master Number).

YEAR: The year of birth is 1965. 1965 reduces to 3 (1 + 9 + 6 + 5 = 21, then 2 + 1 = 3).

Now add the single-digit numbers: 1 + 11 + 3 = 15 then 1 + 5 = 6.

The Life Path Number in this case is 6.

Compatibility Number

It has often been said that love is in the stars. In this case it may be in your calculator!

Matters of the heart have never been “easy peasy”. Humans are complex creatures.

After you’ve calculated the Life Path Number of both you and your partner look up each number (see below) and compare them. Do they seem compatible based on what you want for your life? Reminder: Avoid using nicknames in this process. Use you and your partner’s name exactly as it appears on your birth certificate.

If you want a long term relationship, that interaction requires specific components to make both people happy.

If you just want a little playful sex, you don’t need a complete Numerological resume with bibliography and footnotes. In either case, however, you can look to Numerological symbols and meanings to better understand problematic relationships or get a leg up on a new partner in terms of understanding.

Destiny or Expression Number

The Destiny Number, which is sometimes called an Expression Number, is using a Numerology chart to calculate the numbers associated with each of the letters in your name.

Here is the formula step by step:

Using the chart below add up all the letters in your name (use your complete middle name if you have one). Reduce all but the Master Numbers (11, 22, and 33) to a single digit.

Example:

Inigo Montoya

Inigo:
I + N + I + G + O translates to 9 + 5 + 9 + 7 + 6 = 36 then 3 + 6 = 9
Montoya:
M + O + N + T + O + Y + A translates to 4 + 6 + 9 + 2 + 6 + 7 + 1 = 35 then 3 + 5 = 8

Now add the single-digit numbers: 9 + 8 = 17 then 1 + 7 = 8

Inigo Montoya’s Destiny Number is 8. This makes perfect sense because 8 is the number of Karma and Inigo is Karma’s champion – “My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.”

Don’t let the name of this Numerological value fool you. This isn’t your lot in life. You aren’t “stuck” with the “meaning” of your Destiny Number.

It’s more like your vocation and calling – where your heart leads you in life and what you do with all those moments and memories along the way.

Some Light Workers feel that the Destiny Number may have resonance from your previous incarnations and the Karma they incurred. That means “destiny” has distinct tests and challenges. When you learn the lessons from those, however, the destiny number vibrates even more loudly in your aura and spirit.

Soul Urge or Heart’s Desire Number

What drives and motivates you? What part of yourself do you hide tidily away and keep to yourself. How do you make decisions? These are the kinds of feelings and viewpoints illustrated by your soul urge number.

Sometimes called the Heart’s desire, the Soul Urge number along with your Expression Number, Life Path Number, Day/Destiny Number and Personality Number are considered the five most important Numerological symbols in a person’s life.

Your Soul Urge Number comes from the vowels in your name.

“Y” in Numerology:

A, E, I, O, U and sometimes Y can be confusing when it come to Numerology calculations.

The best explanation of how, when and where or where not to use the letter Y in a Numerology calculation comes from Hans Decoz:

“When determining if the Y is a vowel or a consonant, the basic rule is this:
When the letter serves as a vowel, and in fact sounds like one, it is a vowel. The same is true when the Y serves as the only vowel in the syllable. Examples of both of these cases are such names as Lynn, Yvonne, Mary, Betty, Elly, and Bryan.

However, if the Y does not provide a separate vowel sound, as when it is coupled with another vowel, it is considered a consonant.

In names such as Maloney or Murray, the Y is a consonant, because the vowel sound depends upon the long E in Maloney and the long A in Murray.

In general, the Y is a consonant when the syllable already has a vowel. Also, the Y is considered a consonant when it is used in place of the soft J sound, such as in the name Yolanda or Yoda.

In the names Bryan and Wyatt, the Y is a vowel, because it provides the only vowel sound for the first syllable of both names. For both of these names, the letter A is part of the second syllable, and therefore does not influence the nature of the Y.”

Cookie = O + O + I + E translates to 6 + 6 + 9 + 5 = 26 then 2 + 6 = 8
Monster = O + E translates to 5 + 5 = 11 then 11 is a Master Number so is not reduced

Now add the single-digit numbers: 8 + 11 = 19 then 1 + 9 = 10 then 1 + 0 = 1

Career Number

Everyone wants a great career – not just an empty job but something that’s really fulfilling.

Unfortunately a lot of people get trapped in positions that we hate, but stick with for various reasons. Maybe the right career never opened its doors to you. Perhaps you face financial hardships that require taking that “whatever I can get” job.

    On this page you mention Master Number 33 several times but do not have any breakdown listed for 33, just 11 and 22. Where would I find the meaning of a LifePath Master Number 33 or should all Master Number 33 be reduced to 6?
