How Valentine’s Day Can Make You A Better Lover

Valentine's Day Quotes, Poems, Songs, & Love 1200x630

Ah, Valentine’s Day. Yes. I know. It’s a man made, overly commercialized, bad for the environment, pseudo holiday. Or is it?

As a metaphysical practitioner, I’m obligated by Universal Law to participate in Valentine’s Day because it’s all about love. Romantic love, familial love, platonic love, earth love, career love, soul’s purpose love – love, love, LOVE! Plus, I’m a Scorpio. Throughout our life, we yearn and burn for one thing and one thing only – true love.

I believe in the energy of Valentine’s Day – with all my candy hearts. If you’ll allow February and Valentine’s Day to work their special magic, each can be a catalyst to help you become a better lover.

Stop for a moment. Let your mindfulness training kick in. Remove all judgment regarding Valentine’s Day. Be the present moment. No – not be ‘in’ the present moment – BE the present moment. Wear its energetic cloak. What love energies surround and flow through you at this time?

What loves are you celebrating? What loves are causing you to face demons or traumas?

Are you admiring your soul’s purpose from afar? Do you love a career that doesn’t know you exist? Is there a wedding, bar or bat mitzvah, baby shower, pet adoption or other love filled gathering you’re attending in February?

How does love ‘feel’ to you right now? What do you want love to feel like? How do you want to show up as love in this world? How do you want love to show up to you?

Now. Take another moment and meditate on the Rumi quote below. Ask the energies of February and Valentine’s Day to support your heart chakra as you give thanks for the loves you already have and the loves you want to come in.

Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it. ~ Rumi

Right. All the love you desire is there – it’s everywhere. When we remove judgement and trust that whatever we seek is seeking us, we see the love that’s been there the entire time. Perhaps most importantly, once we see true love we cannot, must not turn our back on it. We can and must be vulnerable and open.

Use this Valentine’s Day as a vehicle to become a better lover. Remove the barriers blocking you from giving and receiving love. Rejoice in whatever powers of love that are available to you now.

And, remember – I love you, Beautiful Souls. All of you. Madly. Deeply. Always.

***WARNING***

These videos contain strong love languages.

Below are 2 videos containing some of the best love songs on Mother Gaia. You are likely to spend a couple hours listening and watching. You are also likely to breathe heavy sighs and make big pouty-lipped, puppy dog eyed faces. Though I’m not a medical professional, these love song videos should give you the recommended monthly allowance of mushy stuff for your Valentine’s Day. However, please be forewarned that if you heave sighs and make crazy love faces while at work, your co-workers could be tempted let your love show all over social media so be aware of your surroundings before picking up that pen and using it as a mic.

Valentine’s Day Poems, well, Poem

The poem ‘Love’s Language’ by Ella Wheeler Wilcox is, perhaps, among the quintessential love poems.

Though this poet’s name might be a bit obscure to some, her famous line “Laugh, and the world laughs with you; Weep, and you weep alone” is one of the most quoted sentiments in history (there’s no empirical data to back this up, it’s really just a hunch based on hearing it a zillion times).

Like the best of lovers, this poem takes its time; touching every part of…LOL! Yeah, this is why poetry is best left to the prose…uh…pros.

How does Love speak?
In the faint flush upon the telltale cheek
And in the pallor that succeeds it; by
The quivering lid of an averted eye
The smile that proves the parent to a sigh
Thus doth Love speak.
How does Love speak?
By the uneven heart-throbs, and the freak
Of bounding pulses that stand still and ache
While new emotions, like strange barges, make
Along vein-channels their disturbing course
Still as the dawn, and with the dawn’s swift force
Thus doth Love speak.
How does Love speak?
In the avoidance of that which we seek
The sudden silence and reserve when near
The eye that glistens with an unshed tear
The joy that seems the counterpart of fear
As the alarmèd heart leaps in the breast
And knows, and names, and greets its godlike guest
Thus doth Love speak.
How does Love speak?
In the proud spirit suddenly grown meek
The haughty heart grown humble; in the tender
And unnamed light that floods the world with splendor
In the resemblance which the fond eyes trace
In all fair things to one belovèd face
In the shy touch of hands that thrill and tremble
In looks and lips that can no more dissemble
Thus doth Love speak.
How does Love speak?
In the wild words that uttered seem so weak
They shrink ashamed in silence; in the fire
Glance strikes with glance, swift flashing high and higher
Like lightnings that precede the mighty storm
In the deep, soulful stillness; in the warm
Impassioned tide that sweeps through throbbing veins
Between the shores of keen delights and pains
In the embrace where madness melts in bliss
And in the convulsive rapture of a kiss
Thus doth Love speak.
– Ella Wheeler Wilcox
